"Right now, Americans are suffering, they’re hurting, they’re in pain. When investment bankers were suffering and hurting, they got a bailout (that’s socialism for investment bankers). But when poor people are hurting, it’s envy. Romney ought to be ashamed of himself."
Dr. Cornel West on Mitt Romney’s assertion that Obama is dealing in the “politics of envy” (via technipol)
Although I disagree with giving bailouts to anyone, I would like to point out that bailing out investment bankers helps poor people as well as the investment bankers. Investment bankers make money that generates jobs for poor people. These jobs create income tax revenue for the government that goes to social programs that benefit poor people. Our society tries to make everyone equal, but we are not equal. Some members of society are more productive than others and deserve to be compensated for their extra productivity. If Americans are suffering then Americans should do something about it. Not the government. (P.S- I am almost certain that Mitt Romney would be against any sort of bailout for investment bankers as well. I believe that his Father opposed bailing out the automobile industry/helped to revive the automobile industry before he became governor of Michigan. If he shares his Father’s views, he certainly wouldn’t agree with a bailout for big business. Just saying.)
